Women’s Health Week

Endometriosis

It’s women’s health week and we thought it was the perfect opportunity to shed some light on some of the different conditions and changes that affect women throughout their lives. Today, that topic is Endometriosis.

Endo is a condition that affects 1 in 10 women, where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus – this can be around the pelvic cavity or in other places around the body. The tissue that grows is also reactive to a woman’s monthly hormonal fluctuations, causing pelvic pain, heavy and irregular bleeding, low back pain, cramping, digestive and bowel changes (to name a few presentations). Every woman experiences endo differently – she may have a lot of endometriosis and no pain, or small to no endometrial growths and a lot of pain.

There are plenty of ways we can help, whether that be pelvic floor and women’s health physiotherapists, or exercise professionals who can help you return to normal exercise or make it manageable for you.
