Stretches for Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is a common compliant we see as a Physiotherapist, and the importance of regular stretching is often overlooked. Regular stretching of the muscles, ligaments and tendons that support the spine is a key element to any treatment for lower back pain. It may also be the most effective and cost-efficient way to soothe and even prevent lower back pain! So why not give it a go today!

Here are some general tips to start your stretching journey:
– Wear something comfortable that won’t limit your movements
– Don’t push yourselves into pain (stretching should feel a little uncomfortable, but never painful)
– Stretch slowly, do not do quick sharp movements or bouncing (they can cause injury)
– Hold stretches for 30 seconds or more for adequate muscle lengthening benefits
– Repeat a stretch up to 5 times to reach maximum muscle elongation
