SHELBY Hill brings home four medals from 2018 Special Olympics

A massive congratulations to Shelby on her performance at the recent Special Olympics in Equestrian.

To me, this is more than just winning a gold medal. It is a life-changing transformation of a person. Shelby inspires me every time I see her. She is every part of why I love what I do everyday. Your story should serve as an inspiration to all kids with any sort of challenge to never give up and to always look at the bright side of where you are.

Word limits in Newspaper articles being what they are I would like to pay credit to the following people, who have been part of Shelby’s “team” to help her be the best she can be:

Credit goes to Grant Paddison from Granlea Horseriding School on the work he has done with Shelby to improve her riding skills.

As well as the Riding for Disabled Centre in Rockhampton, where Shelby started riding. The work that this organisation does is really important in helping children with a disability have the opportunity to ride a horse. In Shelby’s case, I would think that first experience has lead to a massive difference in her life quality.

Sonni and Brad – parents – Unless you have been a parent of a sick child who grows into someone like Shelby, its really impossible to see inside the minds and the hearts of these two people. The hardship you have faced and the positive attitude you always display in providing Shelby with experiences to excel in life are inspirational, and maybe one day should be told in more detail.

And for Shelby’s Vector Health team:
Kate, who always has a smile on her face and who is one of the kindest people I have ever met. You make people feel so comfortable the minute they walk into Vector Health.

Malachi and Harry – you both have demonstrated Vector Health’s values in coaching Shelby. You have both encouraged Shelby to work past what she thought were limitations in movement to being able to do things she had never done before. She is a different person because of you two guys.

Miche – for the little “fixing” of all the little things for Shelby and showing the compassion and empathy as a therapist that is your hallmark as a clinican.

Success in sport comes from having a team around you. Shelby you have a great team around you. Now it is time to reset, look at the stars again and pick another one to reach to. Its time to go to another level.
