How to Strap a Shoulder

Nadine Stewart, our Physiotherapist at Vector Health and Performance has been slowly putting together a library of taping techniques that you can use.

This is a taping technique you can use of the shoulder.  The video is an instructional overview of how to put the tape into position.  Really encourage you to have a look at the video, and please share this post with your friends, and family.

Shoulders are the most unstable joint we have in our body.  To compare the hip, you have a very deep socket in the hip joint with a big ball joint inserted into this, plus the muscle sizes around the hip joint are very big, therefore making it a joint that is meant to tolerate large forces.

The shoulder has a shallow socket joint with a relatively small ball going into the socket.  The planes of motion are greatly enhanced, meaning you can more freely move, however this affects the stability of the joint in general.  The muscles controlling joint motion are smaller compared to the hip joint.

So, when we injure the shoulder, one of the common occurrences is the humerus (upper arm) head (the ball) changes its ideal position into the socket (shoulder joint) and usually sits forward. This can happen due to poor posture, a knock to the shoulder, or repeated movements of the shoulder forcing the shoulder to position the head of humerus into this anteriorly placed position.

This strapping is a GENERALLY supportive strapping, so if you do have shoulder pain or an injury, please just check with a Physiotherapist before you just start to apply this strapping first.

If you would like to book a consultation with Nadine to have her treat your shoulder pain, please contact us on 4927 8190 or via email on reception@vectorhealth.stagingarea.net and please provide your phone number so we can call to arrange an appointment.
