What is it and who can do it?

Pilates has had increasing popularity in the last decade, created by Joseph Pilates in the early 1920’s. The beauty of Pilates is that it is incredibly versatile, able to be done with specific Pilate’s equipment or no equipment at all. Popular for use within a variety of settings including injury rehab & prevention, pregnancy, athletes, chronic health rehab and the general population. With aims to align the body structures and support joints through proper biomechanics and muscular control using evidence-based exercise prescription.

Everyone! This program is particularly designed for people who are new to the gym environment, however people of any age, fitness or skill level are encouraged to join!

Supervised by an accredited exercise physiologist with training in Pilates, these sessions are focused on ensuring safe progression, postural control, body awareness and correct movement patterning. Learn how to coordinate your breath and movement and hold your body in different positions and improving your confidence before progressing to harder exercises. 

All exercises can be tailored and modified for everyone involved.  You will be monitored throughout the sessions and progressed or regressed according to where you are at in your fitness journey. 

What do you need to bring?

  • Towel
  • Yoga mat (not required, although recommended if you would like to use your own)
  • Small pillow 
  • Water bottle

Qualifications for Ex Phys to run the class

  • Accredited Exercise Physiologist & Exercise Scientist 
  • Level 1 Clinical Matwork Pilates certification 
  • Cert 3 & 4 in fitness
  • Animal flow instructor
