What happens in a CHEK Assessment?
Part 1: Health Appraisal Questionnaire Overview
Firstly, we take a dive to see what is going on inside the body. How does the individual build their cells and accumulate energy. What does the nutrition, rest/recovery and hydration look like? Questionnaires such as (health history, food logs, stress loading, lifestyle factors) are sent out and expected to be returned 3-5 days prior to the first session. This is so we can discuss the main findings and start to map out the best plan possible moving forward.
Part 2: Postural Assessment
The postural assessment involves an extensive biomechanical assessment of the body. How does the individual present/express their physical body. How well does the individual breath, move, and think. Some assessment and measurements include (First rib angle, pelvic tilts, spinal curvatures, length-tension relationships, and core function testing). This gives a holistic overview of the physical body and allows for the creation of a specific, individualised corrective/performance program. “If you aren’t assessing, then you’re guessing”
Part 3: Movement Assessment
Next is our movement assessment. This involves observing how the client coordinates physical movement patterns. These movements generally include squatting, lunging, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, crawling, and walking/running.
Part 4: Program Design
All variables now go into account when designing a program. All programs to some degree will include corrective stretches/mobilisations, movement patterns structured towards the desired goal and strategies tailored to decreasing major stressful lifestyle factors.
